H1 checker
Enter up to ten URLs to see each page's H1 heading, and which pages have none or more than one.
What a good H1 does
It tells a reader, in a few words, that they are on the right page. For a service page that is usually the service and the place. For an article it is the question the article answers.
Common problems
- No H1 at all, often because a theme styles a div as a heading.
- The logo or site name marked up as the H1 on every page.
- Several H1s from page-builder sections, none of which describes the page.
Heading structure is one of the checks in the free page analysis. To fix headings on WordPress and Elementor pages with an AI assistant, see Elementor SEO.
Questions
- Does a page need exactly one H1?
- Google has said multiple H1s are not a problem for its systems. One clear H1 that states what the page is about is still the simplest structure for readers, screen readers and other tools.
- Should the H1 match the title tag?
- They can differ. The title is written for search results and the H1 for people already on the page. Both should describe the same topic.
- Why does the checker see no H1 when my page shows one?
- This check reads the HTML your server returns. If the heading is added later by JavaScript, or styled text is used instead of an h1 element, it will not appear here.
