Writesonic alternatives: tools for AI writing, AI visibility tracking, or both
Anjaneyulu Jadda, SEO and AI visibility · Updated
If you use Writesonic mostly to write, the closest alternatives are Surfer, Semrush's Content Toolkit and SE Ranking's Content Editor. If you use it mostly to track AI answers, look at Peec AI, Scrunch or AthenaHQ, and if you want tracking plus technical SEO and an agent that edits the pages you already have, XeoRank fits, though it is not a one-click article writer.
We make XeoRank, one of the tools compared here. Every price and feature below comes from the vendor's own pages, checked 13 October 2026. Prices change, so confirm before you buy.
The short answer
Stay with Writesonic if one subscription for articles and AI tracking fits your budget, you like new posts arriving in WordPress as drafts, and you want your tracking data in an AI assistant through its MCP server. For writing alone, compare Surfer and Semrush's Content Toolkit, and for tracking alone, compare Peec AI, Scrunch and AthenaHQ. XeoRank covers tracking plus technical SEO and fixes to the pages you already have, with drafts for new pages and your AI assistant asking before each change, instead of auto-written articles.
What Writesonic includes
Writesonic's pricing page lists Starter at $79 a month billed annually. That covers 50 prompts tracked on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, 15 articles and 10 site audits. Perplexity, Claude, Grok, Copilot and Google AI Mode are on Enterprise. Its MCP page says the MCP server ships on every paid plan with read-only access and that write actions are on the roadmap, while a June 2026 blog post says it can now create and remove tracked prompts, manage competitors, and create, rename or delete topics and tags, with confirmation before every write. Its WordPress integration sends work back as a new draft or an updated post.
Why people look for an alternative
Often because one half of the product matters much more to them than the other.
Writers who need more than the 15 articles a month on Starter (pricing), or want a dedicated content editor, compare it with content tools such as Surfer.
Marketers who track AI visibility find three engines limiting. Perplexity and Claude are Enterprise only on Writesonic, while AthenaHQ's self-serve Starter plan covers 11 engines.
SEOs who also need rank tracking, a site crawler and Search Console reports in the same place tend to compare it with SEO suites, or with a tool that pairs tracking with site work.

Alternatives for the writing side
Surfer
Surfer is a content optimisation tool for writers. Billed yearly, Discovery is $49 a month, Standard $99, Pro $182 and Peace of Mind $299. Discovery includes 120 documents and one seat with the content editor, AI writer and content audit, but no AI prompt tracking. Its WordPress plugin exports to a new draft or an existing post, and its MCP server writes content inside Surfer.
For tracking, Surfer sells AI Search Analytics separately at $82 a month, and its AI Tracker page lists 25 prompts on Standard. Its pages disagree on engines: one says Standard covers ChatGPT only, while the FAQ lists Gemini, AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity.
Best for writers who want a content editor. Skip it if you want AI tracking on the entry plan.
Semrush Content Toolkit
The Content Toolkit is $60 a month billed annually, and its WordPress plugin publishes live or as a draft. AI tracking is a separate product, the AI Visibility Toolkit, at $99 a month for 25 prompts with no free trial.
It suits teams that already run Semrush for SEO.
Best for teams already on Semrush. Skip it if you want AI tracking in the same product.
SE Ranking Content Editor
SE Ranking is a full SEO suite. Core is $129 a month ($103.20 billed annually), with a 14-day free trial and no card, and includes 10 projects, 2,000 tracked keywords, 250,000 audit pages and 100 GEO prompts a day across 5 LLMs. Its Content Editor exports to WordPress with the post status you choose.
Best for a content editor, AI tracking and an SEO suite in one subscription.
BabyLoveGrowth
BabyLoveGrowth is built for volume. Grow is $49 a month for 30 articles and 10 tracked prompts on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, with a 3-day trial and a 90-day money-back guarantee, and it runs a link-exchange backlink network. It publishes to WordPress, Shopify, Webflow and others through an auto-publish setting, and its settings docs do not describe an approval step, so decide who reviews articles before you switch it on.
Best for article volume. Skip it if you need a documented approval step before articles go live.
Alternatives for the tracking side
Peec AI Starter is $95 a month ($80 billed annually) for 50 prompts on three models you choose, with unlimited users. It does not describe publishing to your site. See Peec AI alternatives.
Best for tracking only, with unlimited users.
Scrunch Core is $250 a month for 125 unique prompts on four engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot. Claude, Gemini, Meta AI, Google AI Mode and Grok are on the custom-priced Enterprise plan, which also lists AXP, a separate AI-readable version of your site for bots. See Scrunch alternatives.
Best for more prompts on one self-serve plan.
AthenaHQ has a free plan with $25 of credit, and its $295 Starter plan covers 11 engines with 3,600 credits, one credit per AI response. It publishes posts to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Wix, Framer, Payload, Sanity and Contentful.
Best for broad engine coverage and publishing to several CMSs.
XeoRank: tracking, SEO and site edits, not a one-click writer
On the tracking side, XeoRank asks ChatGPT, Gemini (grounded in Google Search) and Perplexity your buyer questions. Each engine is reported separately, next to an overall rate. Starter is $19 a month with a 14-day free trial and no card, Pro is $49 a month and Growth $109 a month; the pricing page shows what each plan includes.
On the content side it works differently from Writesonic. The content engine finds opportunities in your Search Console data, such as page-two queries and pages with a low click-through rate, then builds a brief from evidence: those queries, your own pages to link to, and the headings and topics rival pages cover. Publishing a new brief creates a WordPress draft, a brief that optimises an existing post updates that post, and drafts with unsourced claims or placeholders are blocked until they are fixed or a person overrides them in the dashboard. On Pro and above, the Writing Agent reviews drafts for unsourced claims and filler, suggests small patches that are never applied without you, and writes only from your own material, such as interview answers or notes.
Around that sit the SEO tools: a technical crawler, rank tracking, Search Console and GA4 reporting, and an agent that edits existing WordPress pages (including Elementor), Framer and code sites, with your AI assistant asking before each change, through the MCP server included on every plan.
What XeoRank does not do: it has no one-click article generator, its content engine does not publish new posts live, and it tracks fewer engines than AthenaHQ or Scrunch Enterprise.
Best for teams that want their existing pages fixed as well as tracked. Skip it if you want articles generated in one click.
When to stay with Writesonic
Stay with Writesonic if one subscription for articles and AI tracking on ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews fits your budget at $79 a month billed annually (pricing), you publish to WordPress and like new posts arriving as drafts, and you want your Writesonic data in an AI assistant through its MCP server, which its MCP page calls read-only and a June 2026 blog post says can now change prompts, competitors and topics. For a small team that writes and measures in the same place, swapping it for two separate tools may cost more.
Best for small teams that write and measure in the same place. Skip it if you need more engines below Enterprise or more articles than Starter includes.

Sources and how we compared
We compared each tool using its own pricing page, feature pages and help documentation, all checked on 13 October 2026. For each one we recorded the lowest paid plan, the writing and publishing features, AI answer tracking, whether it can change your website, and whether it offers an MCP server.
Where two of a vendor's own pages disagree, we show both figures. We did not buy every plan, so features behind a sales call are described from the vendor's documentation. XeoRank is our product, and its details come from our own pricing page and documentation.
