AthenaHQ alternatives compared: what to use if $295 a month or prompt-only tracking does not fit

, SEO and AI visibility · Updated

AthenaHQ tracks how AI engines talk about your brand and helps you publish content to change it. Its biggest strength is coverage: the $295 Starter plan includes 11 AI engines, more than any other self-serve tool we checked. Its pricing goes from a free Essential plan straight to that $295 Starter plan, and its site audit checks what AI assistants can read (JavaScript dependence, title tags, structured data and AI crawler access) rather than running a full technical SEO crawl.

These alternatives fit teams that want a lower monthly price, SEO and AI visibility in one place, or changes made to the pages they already have. Every price below comes from the vendor's own pages on 13 October 2026.

The short answer

Stay with AthenaHQ if you need engines the others do not track on a self-serve plan, such as Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI or Mistral, or want one tool that writes and publishes new articles. Choose XeoRank if the job includes SEO and fixing the pages you already have. Profound is the enterprise choice, Peec AI, Otterly and Writesonic suit teams that only need tracking, and the Semrush toolkit suits teams that already pay for Semrush.

Stay with AthenaHQ if

  • you need engines the others do not track on a self-serve plan, such as Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI or Mistral;
  • you want one tool that writes new articles and publishes them to Webflow, Sanity, Contentful or Payload;
  • your budget fits $295 a month and you do not need a full technical SEO audit or rank tracking.

Best for teams that want the widest engine coverage on a self-serve plan and publish new articles to a CMS. Skip it if your work also covers technical SEO and rankings.

XeoRank, if the job includes SEO and fixing pages

XeoRank costs $49 per site a month on Pro. It asks ChatGPT, Gemini (grounded in Google Search) and Perplexity your buyer questions; see pricing for what each plan includes. Pro also includes a technical SEO crawler, Core Web Vitals, keyword research, rank tracking for 100 keywords, and Search Console and GA4 reporting.

The difference that matters most for agencies is what happens after the report. AthenaHQ's integrations publish new posts and can update existing WordPress posts. XeoRank's AI agent, which works inside Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Cursor through the XeoRank MCP server, edits the pages you already have: rewriting a heading, adding FAQ schema, fixing a title tag through Yoast or Rank Math, or rebuilding an Elementor section as native widgets. Your AI assistant asks before each change, and changes to a WordPress page's content keep a snapshot you can restore.

What you give up: AthenaHQ tracks more engines, and its credit model gives more AI responses per month on Starter.

Best for agencies whose job includes SEO and fixing existing pages. Skip it if you need the most engines or the most AI responses per month.

Profound, if you are an enterprise

Profound is the enterprise choice, with SSO, SCIM, CDN-level AI crawler logs and a large research programme. It shows no public price beyond a 7-day trial. Read our Profound vs AthenaHQ comparison for the head-to-head.

Best for enterprises that need SSO, SCIM and CDN-level AI crawler logs. Skip it if you want a public price.

Peec AI, Otterly and Writesonic, if you only need tracking

  • Peec AI: $95 a month for 50 prompts on three models of your choice, unlimited users, and a very complete MCP server for managing prompts.
  • Otterly.AI: the cheapest way in, about $25 to $29 a month for 15 prompts, with GEO audits of single URLs.
  • Writesonic: $79 a month billed annually for 50 prompts on three engines, plus an AI writer and WordPress publishing as drafts.

Best for teams that only need tracking: Peec AI for many users and prompt management through MCP, Otterly for the cheapest way in, and Writesonic if you also want an AI writer.

Semrush, if you already pay for it

The AI Visibility Toolkit is $99 a month per domain on annual billing. If your team already runs Semrush for SEO, adding it is simpler than adding another vendor.

Best for teams that already run Semrush for SEO.

Sources and how we compared

We compared each tool using its own pricing page, feature pages and help documentation, all checked on 13 October 2026. For each one we recorded the lowest paid plan, the AI engines on that plan, its technical SEO coverage, whether it can change your website, and whether it offers an MCP server.

Where two of a vendor's own pages disagree, we show both figures. We did not buy every plan, so features behind a sales call are described from the vendor's documentation. XeoRank is our product, and its details come from our own pricing page and documentation.

Questions

How much does AthenaHQ cost?
On 13 October 2026 AthenaHQ's pricing page listed a free Essential plan with $25 of credit on five AI engines, a Starter plan at $295 a month with 3,600 credits on 11 engines (one credit is one AI response), and custom Enterprise pricing. API access is a paid add-on on Starter.
Is there a cheaper AthenaHQ alternative?
Yes. Otterly.AI starts at about $25 to $29 a month, Writesonic at $79 billed annually, Peec AI at $95, and XeoRank at $49 per site for AI tracking on ChatGPT, Gemini (grounded in Google Search) and Perplexity plus SEO and site edits. None of them cover as many engines as AthenaHQ's Starter plan.
Does AthenaHQ do technical SEO?
Partly. It manages robots.txt and llms.txt, connects to Search Console and GA4 for reporting, and its crawler audits public pages for JavaScript dependence, title tags, structured data and AI crawler access. A full crawl for broken links or Core Web Vitals problems is not described, and we found no keyword rank tracking.
Can AthenaHQ edit my existing website pages?
Partly. AthenaHQ publishes posts and collection items to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Wix, Framer, Payload, Sanity and Contentful, according to its integration docs, and its WordPress integration also updates existing posts. On Enterprise or Agency plans, its Shopify Catalog Optimization publishes optimized titles, descriptions, metadata and FAQs for products. XeoRank edits existing WordPress pages, including Elementor layouts; your AI assistant asks before each change, and WordPress writes are off for a site until you turn them on.
