XeoRank vs ChatSEO: an AI SEO assistant with its own chat, or one that works through yours
Mohit M, SEO · Updated
Choose ChatSEO if you want a low-cost AI SEO assistant with its own chat, so you need no separate AI subscription: Starter is €29 to €79 a month excluding VAT, with USD prices the same (ChatSEO pricing). Choose XeoRank if you already use Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor and want an MCP server with more than 200 tools on every plan, SEO and AI visibility data of its own, and an agent that changes your site through your AI assistant, which asks before each tool call.
We make XeoRank, so weigh this page with that in mind. Every ChatSEO fact below comes from its own pricing page, homepage and MCP documentation, checked 13 October 2026. Prices change, so confirm before you buy.
The short answer
ChatSEO suits small site owners who are not SEO specialists, want plain-language advice and a few published articles, and do not already pay for an AI assistant. XeoRank suits people who already work in an AI assistant and want SEO data, per-engine AI tracking and site changes their assistant asks about first. If a built-in chat and one subscription decide the purchase, ChatSEO is the simpler choice.

Price
ChatSEO's pricing page lists euros excluding VAT and says USD prices are the same. Starter is €29 to €79 a month for one site without MCP, Pro €49 to €99 for three sites with MCP and API, and Ranker €79 to €129 for ten sites.
One credit is one message (pricing).
XeoRank Starter is $19 a month with a 14-day free trial and no card. Pro is $49 and Growth $109 a month (pricing).
The list prices leave out one cost: XeoRank needs your own assistant, such as Claude or ChatGPT. If you do not already have one, ChatSEO's Starter plan, chat included, is likely the cheaper way to start. If you do, XeoRank's entry plan costs less and includes MCP, which ChatSEO adds on Pro (ChatSEO pricing).
Its own chat, or your own assistant
ChatSEO is a chat-based "AI SEO employee" for people who are not SEO specialists (ChatSEO). You ask in plain language and there is nothing else to set up.
XeoRank works the other way round. You connect the XeoRank MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or VS Code, and that assistant does the talking. Its more than 200 tools are on every plan.
Who approves a change
Check this before you connect either tool to a live site. ChatSEO says it publishes and updates content on WordPress, Shopify and Webflow "only if you ask" (ChatSEO). Its MCP documentation lists 38 tools, including ones that publish, update and delete Shopify articles and one that removes a site and its data from ChatSEO, and describes no confirmation step, so whether anything asks you first depends on the assistant you connect.
XeoRank's agent works through your AI assistant, which asks before each tool call. On WordPress it adds checks that do not depend on the assistant: writes are off for each site until you enable them, new pages go in as drafts, and every change to a page's content is snapshotted so you can restore it (AI SEO agent). It edits existing WordPress pages, including Elementor layouts, plus Framer pages and code sites on GitHub and Vercel.
The content engine creates new posts as WordPress drafts and updates existing posts in place.
To be fair to ChatSEO, asking it for each change is quicker if you check the work yourself, and it publishes to Shopify and Webflow, which XeoRank does not.
SEO data and AI visibility
ChatSEO works from your Search Console data (read-only), plus Google Analytics on Pro and above (pricing), and its homepage does not describe a dedicated tracker for AI answers.
XeoRank brings its own data. The site crawler is page-type aware and, in dashboard crawls, renders JavaScript when a page needs it. Rank tracking covers country, state or city, desktop or mobile. Search Console and GA4 reports export as a PDF or a Google Doc. AI visibility asks ChatGPT, Gemini (grounded in Google Search) and Perplexity your buyer questions, with each engine reported separately next to an overall rate; see pricing for what each plan includes.
Choose ChatSEO if
- you want one tool with its own chat and no separate AI subscription;
- you publish articles to WordPress, Shopify or Webflow and check each change yourself;
- you run one site and Starter at €29 to €79 a month fits (pricing).
Best for small site owners who want advice and a few published articles from one chat tool. Skip it if several people share the connection or an assistant works through long tasks unchecked.
Choose XeoRank if
- you already use Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or VS Code and want SEO tools inside it;
- you want a crawler, rank tracking, Search Console and GA4 reports and per-engine AI tracking in one plan;
- you want existing WordPress, Elementor, Framer or code pages changed with your AI assistant asking first, WordPress drafts and rollback.
Best for agencies, consultants and site owners who want their AI assistant to audit, track and fix the site, asking before each change. Skip it if you want a built-in chat or need to publish to Shopify or Webflow.
What XeoRank does not do
Its SEO agent runs in your own AI assistant, and that is a separate subscription. It does not edit Shopify products or publish to Webflow. The content engine publishes new posts as WordPress drafts and updates existing posts in place. It also tracks fewer AI engines than dedicated trackers; AthenaHQ, for example, lists 11 on its Starter plan.
Testing both fairly
Run the same three tasks in both, such as finding why a page lost clicks, fixing a title and publishing an article, and note which tool asked before changing anything. For more options, see ChatSEO alternatives.
Sources and how we compared
We compared each tool using its own pricing page, feature pages and help documentation, all checked on 13 October 2026. For each one we recorded the lowest paid plan, how it connects to AI assistants, whether it can change your website and what it asks before it does.
Where two of a vendor's own pages disagree, we show both figures. We did not buy every plan, so features behind a sales call are described from the vendor's documentation. XeoRank is our product, and its details come from our own pricing page and documentation.
Questions
- Is ChatSEO cheaper than XeoRank?
- It depends on whether you already pay for an AI assistant. As of 13 October 2026, ChatSEO Starter is €29 to €79 a month excluding VAT, with USD prices the same, and includes its own chat. XeoRank Starter is $19 a month with a 14-day free trial and no card, but you use it through your own Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or VS Code, which is a separate subscription.
- Do I need my own AI subscription to use XeoRank?
- For the SEO agent, yes. The SEO agent runs in your own AI assistant: you connect XeoRank's MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or VS Code, and that assistant does the work. The dashboard's audits, AI visibility scans and reports work without one. ChatSEO includes its own chat, which is simpler if you do not already use an AI assistant.
- Does ChatSEO have an MCP server?
- Yes, on its Pro plan (€49 to €99 a month) and Ranker plan; Starter has no MCP access. ChatSEO's MCP documentation lists 38 tools, including ones that publish, update and delete Shopify articles and one that removes a site and its data from ChatSEO. XeoRank's MCP server has more than 200 tools and is on every plan, including Starter.
- Which one asks before it changes my website?
- ChatSEO says it publishes and updates content only if you ask, and its MCP documentation does not describe a confirmation step, so any check depends on the assistant you connect. With XeoRank, your AI assistant asks before each tool call; on WordPress, writes are off for each site until you enable them, new pages are saved as drafts, and every change to a page's content can be rolled back.
- Can XeoRank publish to Shopify or Webflow?
- No. ChatSEO publishes and updates content on WordPress, Shopify and Webflow. XeoRank edits existing WordPress pages, including Elementor layouts, plus Framer and code sites. It does not edit Shopify products, and its content engine creates new posts as WordPress drafts and updates existing posts in place.
