ChatSEO alternatives: chat-based AI SEO assistants compared on price, MCP and approval before changes
Mohit M, SEO · Updated
The main ChatSEO alternatives are XeoRank if you want an AI SEO agent that works through your own AI assistant, which asks before each change, BabyLoveGrowth for hands-off articles, and the MCP servers of Semrush, Ahrefs and SE Ranking if you want suite data inside your own AI assistant. ChatSEO itself is a low-cost chat assistant for non-experts: Starter costs €29 to €79 a month excluding VAT, with USD prices the same, and one credit buys one message (ChatSEO pricing).
We make XeoRank, one of the tools compared here. Every competitor price and feature below comes from the vendor's own pages, checked 13 October 2026. Prices change often, so confirm on the vendor's site before you buy.
The short answer
ChatSEO remains the better fit if you want one low-priced tool with its own chat, you do not already pay for an AI assistant, and you check each change yourself. BabyLoveGrowth suits articles produced and published with little input, once you have read its publishing settings. XeoRank fits people who already use Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor and want an agent that audits, tracks and edits the site with your AI assistant asking first, drafts for new pages and WordPress rollback.
ChatSEO and five alternatives compared
| Tool | Lowest paid plan | How you use it | MCP | Writes to your site | Check before a change |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ChatSEO | €29 to €79/mo, 1 site | ChatSEO's own chat | Pro (€49 to €99) and above; 38 tools | Publishes and updates on WordPress, Shopify and Webflow when you ask | None described in its MCP docs |
| XeoRank | $19/mo; Pro $49, Growth $109 | Your own Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or VS Code | Every plan; more than 200 tools | Edits existing WordPress pages incl. Elementor, Framer and code sites | Your AI assistant asks first; WordPress writes off for each site until enabled; new pages as drafts; WordPress snapshots and rollback |
| BabyLoveGrowth | $49/mo, 30 articles | Its dashboard | Free and read-only | Publishes to WordPress, Shopify, Webflow and more | "Automatically Publish" toggle; no approval step documented |
| Semrush | $139/mo, or $139.95 on its help page | Semrush app, or your assistant via MCP | Read-only, uses API units | Content Toolkit plugin publishes live or as a draft | MCP makes no changes |
| Ahrefs | $29/mo Starter; MCP from Lite ($129) | Ahrefs app, or your assistant via MCP | Lite and above | Patches change titles and meta descriptions | Patches are published manually and need the Project Boost Max add-on |
| SE Ranking | $129/mo, or $103.20 billed annually | SE Ranking app, or your assistant via MCP | Included on Core; key has the same access as the account | Content Editor exports to WordPress | You choose the post status on export |
Why people look for a ChatSEO alternative
Credits are per message. One credit is one message, and the 7-day trial includes 30 credits and needs a card (pricing). A long back-and-forth about a site audit counts every turn.
MCP starts on Pro. Starter has no MCP access. Pro, at €49 to €99 a month for three sites, adds MCP and API, and Ranker, at €79 to €129, covers ten sites (pricing).
If you want ChatSEO inside Claude or ChatGPT, budget for Pro.
ChatSEO does not describe a dedicated AI answer tracker. It reads Search Console (read-only) and Google Analytics, but its homepage does not describe tracking how ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity answer your buyers' questions.
The difference that matters: who approves a change
ChatSEO says it publishes and updates content on WordPress, Shopify and Webflow "only if you ask" (ChatSEO). Its MCP documentation lists 38 tools, including ones that publish, update and delete Shopify articles and one that removes a site and its data from ChatSEO, and describes no confirmation step. Once you connect that MCP to an AI assistant, whether anything asks you first is up to the assistant, since the server describes no check of its own.
XeoRank's agent works through your AI assistant, which asks before each tool call, and on WordPress it adds checks that do not depend on the assistant. Writes are off for each site until you turn them on, and you can turn them off again. New pages, such as a new landing page, are saved as drafts. Every change to a page's content is snapshotted and can be restored, and the agent can send a preview link for a draft before you publish it (AI SEO agent).
Be fair to both. If you trust your assistant and check its work, ChatSEO's approach is quicker. If several people share a connection, or you let an assistant work through a long task, checks like these are worth having.
What ChatSEO does well
ChatSEO is built for people who are not SEO specialists. You talk to it in plain language, it reads your Search Console data, plus Google Analytics on Pro and above (pricing), and it can publish to WordPress, Shopify and Webflow (ChatSEO). It includes its own chat, so you do not need a separate AI subscription. For a small site owner who wants advice and a few published articles at a low monthly price, that is a simple setup.
The alternatives in more detail
XeoRank
XeoRank is an SEO and AI visibility platform that works through the AI assistant you already use. Starter is $19 a month with a 14-day free trial and no card.
Pro is $49 and Growth $109 a month (pricing).
Its MCP server has more than 200 tools on every plan and connects to Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor and VS Code. You can ask it to crawl your site, compare Search Console periods, research keywords with real search volumes, track rankings by country, state or city, and check how ChatGPT, Gemini (grounded in Google Search) and Perplexity answer your buyers' questions, reported per engine (see pricing for what each plan includes). When a fix is needed, the agent edits existing WordPress pages, including Elementor, and Framer and code sites, and your AI assistant asks before each change.
The trade-off: XeoRank's SEO agent runs in your own AI assistant, and that subscription is a separate cost.
Best for people who already use an AI assistant and want an agent that edits the site through that assistant, with WordPress rollback. Skip it if you want an SEO assistant with its own built-in chat.
BabyLoveGrowth
BabyLoveGrowth is the hands-off option. Grow is $49 a month for 30 articles and 10 AI prompts on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, and it adds a link-exchange backlink network and technical fixes. Its settings include an "Automatically Publish" toggle with no approval step documented. See BabyLoveGrowth alternatives.
Best for hands-off articles. Skip it if you need a documented approval step before articles go live.
Semrush, Ahrefs and SE Ranking through MCP
If you want suite data in your own assistant, all three have MCP servers. Semrush's is read-only and consumes API units. Ahrefs offers MCP on Lite at $129 a month and above (pricing). SE Ranking includes MCP on Core at $129 a month, and its MCP key has the same access as the account. These give you larger keyword and backlink databases than XeoRank, at higher prices, without an agent that edits your pages.
Best for teams that want larger keyword and backlink databases inside their own assistant. Skip them if you want an agent that edits your pages.
When to stay with ChatSEO
Stay with ChatSEO if you want one low-priced tool with its own chat, you do not already pay for an AI assistant, and you publish to WordPress, Shopify or Webflow and check each change yourself. If you only use it for advice and occasional articles, the Starter plan may be all you need.
Best for small site owners who want advice and a few published articles at a low monthly price. Skip it if several people share a connection or an assistant works through long tasks.
What XeoRank does not do
XeoRank does not write articles in bulk. Its content engine creates new posts as WordPress drafts (a brief that optimises an existing post updates that post), and the Writing Agent, on Pro and above, drafts from the author's own notes and interview answers rather than producing one-click articles. It has no desktop crawler, its keyword and backlink databases are smaller than those of Semrush or Ahrefs, and it does not build links.
It also does not edit Shopify products.
How to choose
- If you want a single chat tool and no AI subscription, ChatSEO is the simpler setup.
- If you want articles produced and published with little input, look at BabyLoveGrowth, and read its publishing settings first.
- If you already use Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor and want an agent that audits, tracks and edits your site with your AI assistant asking first, drafts for new pages and WordPress rollback, XeoRank fits. The AI SEO agent page shows how those checks work.
Sources and how we compared
We compared each tool using its own pricing page, feature pages and help documentation, all checked on 13 October 2026. For each one we recorded the lowest paid plan, how you use it, what checks it describes before a change, whether it can change your website, and whether it offers an MCP server.
Where two of a vendor's own pages disagree, we show both figures. We did not buy every plan, so features behind a sales call are described from the vendor's documentation. XeoRank is our product, and its details come from our own pricing page and documentation.
Questions
- How much does ChatSEO cost?
- As of 13 October 2026, ChatSEO's pricing page lists Starter at €29 to €79 a month for one site without MCP, Pro at €49 to €99 for three sites with MCP and API, and Ranker at €79 to €129 for ten sites, excluding VAT, with USD prices the same. One credit is one message, and the 7-day trial includes 30 credits and needs a card.
- Does ChatSEO ask before it publishes or deletes content?
- ChatSEO says it publishes and updates content only if you ask. Its MCP documentation lists 38 tools, including ones that publish, update and delete Shopify articles and one that removes a site and its data from ChatSEO, and does not describe a confirmation step, so any check depends on the AI assistant you connect.
- How is XeoRank different from ChatSEO?
- XeoRank's SEO agent runs in your own AI assistant, and its MCP server has more than 200 tools on every plan. Your AI assistant asks before each change; on WordPress, writes are off for each site until you enable them, new pages are saved as drafts, and every change to a page's content can be rolled back. It also tracks AI answers per engine and includes a technical SEO crawler.
- Do I need my own AI subscription to use XeoRank?
- For the agent, yes. XeoRank's SEO agent runs in your own AI assistant: you connect its MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or VS Code, and that subscription is a separate cost. The XeoRank dashboard's audits, AI scans and reports work without one. ChatSEO includes its own chat, which is simpler if you do not already use an AI assistant.
- Is there a cheaper alternative to ChatSEO?
- XeoRank Starter is $19 a month with a 14-day free trial and no card, but you need your own AI assistant for its agent. ChatSEO Starter starts at €29 a month, with USD prices the same. Compare what each plan includes rather than the headline price.
