WordPress SEO automation with an AI agent that asks before it publishes
Vikas Chamarthi, Founder · Updated
XeoRank automates WordPress SEO work through the AI assistant you already use. Install the free XeoRank Connector plugin, connect the XeoRank MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Cursor, and the assistant can audit the site, then fix titles, meta descriptions, schema, headings, images and menus on the pages you already have, once you allow it.
Automation here means the agent does the clicking when you ask. Nothing on the site changes on a timer, writes are off for each site until you turn them on, and new pages are saved as drafts for you to review.
What the agent can change on a WordPress site
- Existing pages and posts: rewrite a heading, fix a heading order that jumps from H2 to H5, tighten an intro so it answers the query people search, or replace one section without touching the rest.
- SEO titles and meta descriptions, written into the SEO plugin the site already uses: Yoast, Rank Math or All in One SEO.
- Schema: JSON-LD such as Organization, FAQPage or Article, generated from what is actually on the page and added to it.
- Images: upload an image into the media library with alt text, so it is hosted on the site instead of hotlinked.
- Menus and templates: create or update a menu, assign it to a theme location, and build Elementor theme templates such as headers and footers as drafts (theme-builder templates need Elementor Pro).
- Site-wide CSS and JavaScript, such as an analytics snippet or a style fix that applies to every page.
- Bulk work: find and replace terms across the text of an Elementor page, clone one Elementor page into several draft variants with their own replacements, or copy an Elementor page from one site to another. The programmatic SEO page explains how to use variants without creating doorway pages.
Elementor sites get the same tools, with sections written as native containers and widgets so the page stays editable in Elementor. The Elementor integration page covers that in detail, including Elementor 4 atomic elements and Pro widgets, so it is not repeated here. If you are weighing this against Elementor's own MCP server, which edits V4 atomic pages only for now, see Elementor MCP: setup, limits and alternatives.
From audit to fix: a typical session
- Crawl the site. XeoRank checks technical SEO and on-page basics (titles, meta descriptions, H1s, headings, image alt text, internal and broken links, duplicates, HTTPS and mobile), flags empty pages and errors in existing structured data, and can render JavaScript with headless Chromium on crawls started from the dashboard. Rules are page-type aware, so legal, pricing and product pages are not held to the editorial rules meant for articles.
- Issues go into a fix queue, and you can link them to the goals you set for the site.
- Ask the agent to fix a batch: "Add meta descriptions to the service pages in Rank Math and add FAQPage schema wherever a page already lists questions."
- The agent prepares the edits and tells you what will change. A new page is created as a draft, and the agent can send you a preview link. Edits to an existing page change that page directly.
- Your AI assistant asks before each tool call, including the one that publishes. Recrawl to confirm the issue is gone. If a page edit looks wrong, restore the snapshot taken before it.
Search Console fits into the same loop. XeoRank syncs your queries, which pages they land on, URL inspections and sitemap status, so the agent can rewrite a title for the queries a page already gets impressions for instead of guessing.
New content goes in as drafts
The content engine finds opportunities in your own data: Search Console queries on page two or with low click-through, rising queries, content gaps, keyword clusters, tracked keywords that are stuck, and AI prompts where your site is not cited. It turns one into a brief with the evidence attached: the queries, your own pages to link to, and the headings and entities rival pages cover.
Your draft gets a rankability score computed by rules, not by a model. For a new article, publishing creates a WordPress draft; for an update to an existing post, the new content is written into that post. Writing blockers such as unsourced claims or placeholder text stop an agent from publishing the draft; only a person can override them in the dashboard, with a written reason.
Guard rails
- Writes are off for each site until you enable them, and you can switch them off again.
- New pages, templates and page variants are created as drafts; edits to an existing page change that page directly.
- Every change to a page's content stores a snapshot first (up to 20 per page), and any snapshot can be restored.
- The agent can send a preview link before anything is published.
- In a shared workspace, members are read-only unless they are given write access.
Your AI assistant asks before each tool call, so you say yes, ask for changes, or restore a snapshot afterwards. The gates XeoRank itself enforces are the per-site write switch, drafts for new pages and page snapshots.
Set it up
- Add the site in XeoRank and choose WordPress.
- Download the free XeoRank Connector plugin, install and activate it, then connect the site from XeoRank.
- Connect the MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or VS Code. The ChatGPT and Codex page covers OpenAI's apps.
- Ask for a crawl, and enable writes for the site when you want the agent to start making changes.
What it does not do
- It does not change your site in the background. Every edit starts with a request from you or your agent.
- It does not publish new articles live. The content engine creates a WordPress draft for a new article; a brief that optimises an existing post updates that post.
- It does not suggest internal links. The crawl flags pages that have no internal links, and briefs list the pages a new article should link to, but there is no link-suggestion engine.
- It does not manage WooCommerce product data such as prices, stock or variants.
- It edits WordPress sites that run the Connector plugin. For a Framer project see the Framer integration; for other platforms the agent produces the fix, such as a JSON-LD snippet, and you apply it.
Pricing
Starter is $19 a month for one site, with a 14-day free trial and no card to start. Pro is $49 a month and Growth is $109 a month. See pricing for what each plan includes.
Questions
- What is WordPress SEO automation?
- It means software doing SEO tasks on a WordPress site that a person would otherwise do by hand, such as writing meta descriptions, adding schema or fixing heading order. With XeoRank, your AI assistant does those tasks through the XeoRank Connector plugin when you ask, not on a timer, and it asks before each tool call.
- Do I need to install anything on WordPress?
- Yes, the free XeoRank Connector plugin. It lets XeoRank read and edit pages, posts, menus, templates, media and SEO plugin fields. Writes stay off until you enable them for that site.
- Which SEO plugins does XeoRank work with?
- Yoast SEO, Rank Math and All in One SEO. The agent writes titles and meta descriptions into whichever of those the site already uses.
- Can I undo a change the agent made?
- Yes, for page content. Every change to a page's content stores a snapshot first (up to 20 per page), and any snapshot can be restored. SEO titles and meta, menus and site-wide code are not snapshotted. New pages, templates and page variants are created as drafts, so they are not live until you publish them; edits to an existing page change that page directly.
- Does it work with Elementor?
- Yes. Elementor pages are edited as native containers and widgets, including Elementor 4 atomic elements, so they stay editable in Elementor afterwards. The XeoRank Elementor integration page covers the details.
