GA4 SEO reporting, including traffic from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Copilot
Mohit M, SEO · Updated
XeoRank connects to your Google Analytics 4 property and reports the numbers an SEO needs: sessions, users, engagement, key events, channels and sources, plus the visits that came from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Copilot. You can read them in the dashboard, inside the Search Console business report, or by asking your AI assistant.
GA4 reporting has no plan gate. It works the same on Starter, Pro and Growth.
Who it is for
- Site owners who want to know whether SEO and AI assistants are sending real visits, without building a GA4 exploration.
- Agencies that report organic and AI traffic to clients next to Search Console numbers.
- Marketers who want to ask an AI assistant "is ChatGPT sending us more visits than last month?" and get an answer from their own data.
What XeoRank reports from GA4
| Group | Metrics |
|---|---|
| Audience | sessions, users, new users, active users, country |
| Engagement | pageviews, bounce rate, engagement rate |
| Outcomes | key events and conversions |
| Acquisition | channels and sources |
| AI referrals | sessions from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Copilot, with growth against the previous period |
When you connect Google Analytics, XeoRank looks for the GA4 property whose web stream matches the site's domain. That matters for agencies whose Google account can see many client properties, because attaching the wrong property would put one client's traffic on another client's report.
AI referral traffic
AI assistants now send visitors to websites through the links in their answers. XeoRank groups those visits by assistant, so you can see ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Copilot separately instead of hunting for their domains in a long referral list. Each one shows the change against the previous period, so you can see whether the traffic from each assistant is growing.
Two limits apply, and both come from how analytics works rather than from XeoRank:
- GA4 only records a visit when someone clicks through. An answer that names your brand without a click leaves no trace in analytics.
- A visit only counts as AI referral traffic when it arrives with that assistant as its source. Visits that arrive without a referrer, for example from some apps, can end up counted as direct traffic.
So AI referral sessions tell you which assistants send you traffic and whether that traffic is growing. They do not tell you how often you are mentioned. For that, XeoRank's AI visibility tracking asks ChatGPT, Gemini (grounded in Google Search) and Perplexity your buyer questions and shows the answers per engine, next to an overall rate; see pricing for what each plan includes. You can try a free three-question Gemini check at /ai-visibility, and how to rank on ChatGPT covers what tends to get a page cited.
GA4 next to Search Console
Search Console tells you what happened in Google before the click: impressions, clicks, position. GA4 tells you what happened after it: sessions, engagement and key events. XeoRank puts both in the Search Console business report, so a client sees clicks and sessions in one document, exported as a PDF or a Google Doc. When clicks rise in Search Console but sessions in GA4 do not, that gap is worth a look; a broken tracking tag or a slow landing page are two things to check. On the Growth plan the report can carry your agency's name through white-label reports.
Using GA4 data with your AI assistant
Connect the XeoRank MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or VS Code and you can combine GA4 with the rest of your site data in one request:
"How many sessions came from ChatGPT and Perplexity last month compared with the month before? Then take our top landing pages from Search Console, crawl them, and tell me which ones have missing meta descriptions, broken links or errors in their structured data."
The assistant pulls the GA4 numbers, reads the Search Console pages, runs the crawl and answers. Other questions it can answer from GA4 alone:
- "Is AI referral traffic growing, and which assistant sends the most?"
- "Which channels and countries brought the most sessions this period?"
- "How did engagement rate and key events change against the previous period?"
If you then ask it to add FAQPage schema or rewrite an intro on a WordPress page, it prepares the change, and your AI client asks you to allow it before it runs. Writes are off for each site until you turn them on, new pages are created as drafts, edits to an existing page are written to that page, and every change to a page's content keeps a snapshot you can restore.
Setting it up
- Make sure GA4 is installed on the site and collecting data.
- In XeoRank, connect Google Analytics for the site with a Google account that can read its GA4 property.
- Read the numbers in the dashboard, see them in the Search Console business report, or ask your AI assistant.
What it does not do
- It does not install GA4 or add a tracking script to your site. GA4 must already be collecting data.
- It does not collect analytics of its own. Every number comes from your GA4 property.
- It does not replace Google Analytics for explorations, funnels, audiences or event setup. Those stay in GA4.
- It does not change your GA4 configuration, such as which events count as key events.
- It does not count AI mentions that did not lead to a click. Use AI visibility tracking for that.
Pricing
GA4 reporting is available on every plan. Starter is $19 a month for one site, with a 14-day free trial and no card needed. Pro is $49 a month and Growth is $109 a month. See pricing for what each plan includes.
Questions
- Can XeoRank show how much traffic comes from ChatGPT?
- Yes. XeoRank reads the traffic sources in your GA4 property and reports the sessions that came from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Copilot, with the change against the previous period. It only counts visits GA4 recorded, which means someone clicked a link in the AI answer and the visit arrived with that assistant as its source.
- Which GA4 metrics does XeoRank report?
- Sessions, users, new and active users, pageviews, bounce rate, engagement rate, key events and conversions, channels and sources, country, and AI referral traffic from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Copilot.
- Which XeoRank plan includes GA4 reporting?
- GA4 reporting has no plan gate, so it is available on Starter, Pro and Growth. Starter is $19 a month for one site with a 14-day free trial and no card needed.
- Does XeoRank replace Google Analytics?
- No. XeoRank reads data from your GA4 property and does not collect any analytics of its own. You still need GA4 installed on your site, and detailed explorations, funnels and audience settings stay in Google Analytics.
- Why does AI referral traffic look small compared with how often AI assistants mention us?
- Because GA4 only sees visits. When ChatGPT or Perplexity names your brand and the reader does not click, no visit is recorded. To see whether AI assistants mention you at all, use AI visibility tracking, which asks each engine buyer questions and reports the answers per engine.
