Claude SEO MCP: connect Claude to XeoRank and do SEO work from the chat

, Founder · Updated

To do SEO with Claude on your own site's data, connect Claude to an SEO MCP server. XeoRank's server at https://mcp.xeorank.com/mcp works in Claude.ai, Claude Desktop and Claude Code, and lets Claude crawl your site, read Search Console, research and cluster keywords, check rankings, test AI answers and edit your WordPress pages once you allow it.

On its own, Claude can explain SEO and draft a title tag, but it cannot see your Search Console queries, check where you rank or change a page. The MCP server supplies those tools. It is listed in the official MCP Registry as com.xeorank/xeorank and has more than 200 tools. You do not need to learn their names; Claude picks the one that fits the request.

What Claude can do once XeoRank is connected

  • Crawl a site and list its technical SEO issues, such as missing titles, broken links or redirect chains.
  • Read your Search Console queries and pages.
  • Run keyword research and group the results into clusters by meaning and intent. See keyword clustering.
  • Check rankings for tracked keywords in the country or city and on the device you choose.
  • Ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity the questions your buyers ask, and report which sites they cite.
  • Generate JSON-LD schema for a page.
  • Edit existing WordPress pages, including Elementor layouts, through the XeoRank Connector plugin after you enable writes. Framer projects and code sites are covered too. See Elementor SEO, and Elementor MCP compared if you are deciding between XeoRank and Elementor's own MCP server.

Set up XeoRank in Claude

All three Claude apps connect to the same server URL. The MCP setup guide has the steps for every client, including ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor and VS Code.

Claude.ai

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector.
  2. Name it XeoRank and paste https://mcp.xeorank.com/mcp as the URL.
  3. Click Connect and sign in to your XeoRank account. Sign-in uses OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration, so there is no API key to copy.
  4. Start a chat and ask Claude to list your XeoRank sites. If it returns them, the connection works.

If you do not see the option to add a custom connector, your Claude plan or your organization's settings may not allow it. Check with your Claude admin or Anthropic's help pages.

Claude Desktop

Claude Desktop uses the same flow: Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector. Paste the URL, click Connect and sign in. There is no config file to edit.

Claude Code

Add the server from your terminal:

claude mcp add xeorank --transport http https://mcp.xeorank.com/mcp

Then run /mcp inside Claude Code, choose Authenticate, and finish signing in through the browser window that opens. Run claude mcp list to confirm the server is connected.

Claude Code is also where XeoRank's findings meet your code. If your site is built from a repository, Claude can read the issues XeoRank found and fix them in the files you have open.

Six prompts to try first

Each one is a complete request. Swap in your own domain and pages.

  1. "Crawl example.com and list the technical SEO issues, worst first, with the pages each one affects."
  2. "Which Search Console queries get impressions for /pricing at positions 4 to 20? Suggest a title and meta description that target them."
  3. "Start a keyword research session for invoicing software for freelancers, cluster the keywords by intent, and give me monthly volumes for the commercial cluster."
  4. "Add the commercial cluster to our tracked keywords and check where we rank in the United States on mobile."
  5. "Ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity which invoicing app they recommend for freelancers, and tell me which sites they cite instead of ours."
  6. "Generate FAQPage JSON-LD for the questions already on our /faq page, show me the markup, then add it to the WordPress page."

Read the prompts that cost credits or change the site before you send them. Keyword research and rank checks draw credits, and nothing on a WordPress site changes until writes are enabled for it.

The safety model

Reading data changes nothing, so Claude can audit, research and report without any extra setup. Changing a site is gated:

  1. Writes are off for every WordPress site until you enable them for that site, and you can switch them off again.
  2. New pages, such as a new landing page, and page clones are created as drafts. Edits to an existing page change that page directly.
  3. Every change to a page's content keeps a snapshot first, up to 20 per page, and any snapshot can be restored. SEO meta, menus and custom code are not snapshotted, and Framer and code sites have no snapshots.
  4. Claude can send you a preview link for a draft so you see it before it goes live.

The point of the gate is that you, not the model, decide when a change runs. Claude asks before each tool call; you allow it, ask for changes, or restore a snapshot afterwards.

What it costs

You pay for two separate things: a XeoRank plan and a Claude plan.

WhatWho you payDetails
XeoRank planXeoRankStarter is $19 a month for one site, with a 14-day free trial and no card to start. Pro is $49 per site a month and Growth is $109 per site a month. MCP and API access are on every plan.
Claude planAnthropicSeparate from XeoRank and not included in any XeoRank plan. Use the Claude plan you already have, as long as it lets you add a custom connector.

Some XeoRank actions draw from your plan's monthly credits. Keyword research costs 5 credits per message and rank tracking costs 20 credits per keyword per check, and every action shows its cost before it runs. See pricing.

On the Claude side, tool calls and their results become part of the conversation, so a long SEO session uses more of your Claude plan's usage than a short chat.

What it does not do

  • It does not replace your judgment. Claude asks before each tool call; you decide which changes run.
  • It tracks fewer AI engines than some dedicated AI visibility tools. See AI visibility for what XeoRank covers.
  • Keyword clustering is built for research sessions and a brand's tracked keywords, not for clustering a large CSV export in one pass.
  • It does not include Claude. You need your own Claude plan.
  • Site editing covers WordPress (through the XeoRank Connector plugin), Framer and code sites. For a site on another platform, plan to apply the changes yourself.

Not sure where your site stands yet? Run a free site analysis first, then connect Claude and ask it to work through the results.

Questions

Can Claude do SEO?
Claude can explain SEO, plan the work and draft copy on its own, but it cannot read your Search Console data, check your rankings or edit your site without a tool. Connecting the XeoRank MCP server at https://mcp.xeorank.com/mcp gives Claude tools for site crawls, Search Console, keyword research, rank checks, AI answer checks and WordPress edits that Claude asks you to allow first.
How do I connect XeoRank to Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add xeorank --transport http https://mcp.xeorank.com/mcp in your terminal. Then run /mcp inside Claude Code, choose Authenticate and sign in to XeoRank in the browser window that opens. Running claude mcp list confirms the server is connected.
How do I add XeoRank to Claude.ai or Claude Desktop?
Open Settings, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector, paste https://mcp.xeorank.com/mcp and sign in to XeoRank when asked. Sign-in uses OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration, so there is no API key to copy and no config file to edit.
Does XeoRank include a Claude subscription?
No. MCP access is included on every XeoRank plan, starting with Starter at $19 a month for one site with a 14-day free trial, but your Claude plan is separate and paid for on its own.
Can Claude change my website through XeoRank without asking?
No. Claude asks before each tool call, and WordPress writes are off for each site until you enable them. New pages are saved as drafts, every change to a page's content keeps a snapshot you can restore, and Claude can send you a preview link for a draft before it is published.
